RT is one of my favorites! He is off-scale brilliant--both as a player and writer. I've seen him many times--solo, acoustic duo, with band. When he straps on the electric--LOOK OUT! Simply amazing. I cannot reccommend him more highly. The new box set is great--mostly previously unreleased live stuff--quite a bit from his own collection. Varying recording quality (some tasty auds).
Another guy that I love is Dave Alvin. Another great player/writer. Pretty rootsy stuff--bluesy, folky, rockin' country. Formed the Blasters with his brother Phil in the late 70's--comtemporaries of Los Lobos. Been doing his own thing for 20 years or more. His new release is called West of the West--covers of Cali songwriters incl. Garcia/Hunter (Loser). Check him out. (Note: I have previously pimped DA on this forum. He's just one of those guys out there on the road playing for a couple hundred folks at a time, selling a few CD's. Go see him--you won't be disappointed!)
